Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters. This policy describes what we collect and why.
Last updated: May 27, 2026
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Trace collects, uses, shares, and protects personal information when you use our mobile app, website, and related services.
We built Trace to help you monitor unclaimed property, not to sell your data. We collect only what we need to provide the Service.
Information we collect
Depending on how you use Trace, we may collect:
- Account information: email address and authentication identifiers from Apple, Google, or email sign-in.
- Identity and search inputs: name, state, city, ZIP code, prior addresses, household members you add, and life-event context you provide for matching.
- Match and activity data: search results, alerts, claim status you record in the app, and monitoring preferences.
- Device and usage data: app version, device type, crash logs, and general usage analytics to improve reliability.
- Payment status: subscription state from Apple or Google (we do not receive full payment card numbers).
- Support communications: messages you send to support.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- Run unclaimed-property searches and ongoing monitoring.
- Send push notifications and emails you opt into.
- Provide claim guidance and in-app features such as watchlists.
- Process subscriptions and prevent fraud or abuse.
- Comply with law and enforce our Terms.
- Improve the Service through aggregated or de-identified analytics.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data with:
- Service providers (hosting, databases, analytics, customer support) under confidentiality obligations.
- Authentication and payment partners (Apple, Google, Supabase, RevenueCat) as needed to operate the Service.
- Authorities when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
- A successor entity in a merger or acquisition, with notice where required.
Data retention
We retain account and monitoring data while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to resolve disputes, comply with law, and maintain backups. You may request deletion as described below.
Your choices and data deletion
You can update profile and watchlist information in the app. You can disable push notifications in device settings.
To delete your account and associated personal data, email us at ask.trace@outlook.com with the subject line "Data deletion request" from the email tied to your account, or use in-app account deletion if available. We will verify your request and complete deletion within a reasonable period, subject to legal retention requirements.
Deleting your account does not delete public records held by states; it removes data we control in Trace systems.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit (TLS) and encryption at rest for sensitive data where supported. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Contact us if you believe a child has provided data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate.
