Terms of Service
Please read these terms carefully before using Trace.
Last updated: May 27, 2026
Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to the Trace mobile application, website, and related services (collectively, the "Service") operated by Trace ("we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, subscribing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
What Trace is, and is not
Trace is a private unclaimed-property monitoring and guidance service. We search public and licensed data sources to surface potential matches and help you understand how to claim funds through official state processes.
Trace is not a government agency, bank, law firm, or tax advisor. We do not hold your money, guarantee that any match is yours, or guarantee that you will recover funds. Results are indicative until verified and claimed through the state.
Trace does not file claims on your behalf. You must complete all claims directly with the applicable state or holder, including identity verification and any fees the state may require.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. You represent that information you provide is accurate and that you are authorized to provide information for anyone you add to a household watchlist.
Subscriptions and billing
Paid features require an active subscription purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play, unless we offer another authorized payment method. Prices, trial terms, and renewal periods are shown at purchase and may change with notice as allowed by the store and applicable law.
Subscriptions renew automatically until canceled in your store account settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we do not control store refund decisions.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for unlawful purposes or to harass, abuse, or impersonate others.
- Scrape, reverse engineer, or attempt to access non-public areas of the Service.
- Submit false identity information or search on behalf of others without permission.
- Resell or commercially exploit the Service without our written consent.
Intellectual property
The Service, including software, design, and content we create, is owned by Trace or its licensors. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes in accordance with these Terms.
Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or that matches are complete, current, or legally claimable by you.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Trace and its officers, directors, employees, and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the Service.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Trace from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your misuse of the Service, violation of these Terms, or violation of any third-party rights.
Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will post the revised Terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
